DSI AND GECOM work together to create Platinum
Industries
As DSI expands to accommodate the diverse needs of its service
population, it must also grow to find new sources of revenue.
DSI Industries did both when it created Platinum Industries.
Platinum
Industries is the result of a cooperative effort between DSI and
GECOM – a Greensburg – based company that manufactures automotive
components for Toyota, Chrysler, and Honda. Platinum Industries
will triple DSI Industry sales.
According to DSI Industrial Representative Celeste Reed, Platinum
Industries was created as an affirmative industry subsidiary of
DSI – part of the mission of the organization to make its industrial
facilities completely integrated and manufacturing oriented.
“This is a very aggressive industrial environment,” said Reed.”
“Platinum Industries is an automotive industrial plant and is really
mutually beneficial joint venture with GECOM. We will be working
side-by-side with GECOM. This is really unlike anything we’ve done
before.”
Utilizing sophisticated equipment such as air-compressed spin riveters
and star riveters supplies by GECOM, DSI produces automotive door
locks through a series of subassemblies. Platinum Industries is
currently operating three shifts at CTC Industries in Columbus,
two shifts at Sandstone Industries in Madison, and one at Decatur
Industries in Greensburg.”

Although the primary duties at Platinum Industries are carried out
by employees without disabilities, Reed anticipates clients at DSI
to get many work opportunities through re-working and sorting of
GECOM components.
Platinum Industries will also provide other benefits. “The work
with GECOM will allow us to use considerable unused storage space
for production purposes,” explains Reed. “It will also create a
more natural work environment for clients we serve because DSI Industry
facilities will be more thoroughly integrated.”
Although Platinum Industries will be a new venture for DSI, it
was certainly not an overnight endeavor. GECOM and DSI have been
doing business with each other for years in other production capacities.
“This contract is the result of twelve years of mutual trust and
benefit between DSI and GECOM,” said Reed. “GECOM recognizes that
DSI has done quality work over the years and know that we can do
a large scale job such as this one.”
Hopefully DSI and GECOM can look forward to many more years of
a mutually beneficial relationship.
